My Fitness Journey

I’ve been helping clients from the San Francisco Bay Area with their fitness training since 2014. As a fully qualified and accredited Personal Trainer, I firmly believe in the positive benefits fitness brings to all areas of our lives. Additionally, my education and knowledge in physiology & metabolism will help you reach your goals efficiently and effectively.

My Fitness Journey started in the summer of 2011. I was entering my senior year of high school and wanted to improve my performance in cross country. I began at 127Ib(57.6kg) and within 3 months I reached 140Ib(63.5kg). However, I soon began to feel constantly weak and my results reached a plateau. I looked to the internet and soon realized I was over-trained and underfed, especially on carbohydrates. I had no real workout structure, I would bike 15-20 miles a day, swim 1-3 miles, and do countless sets of push-ups, bench press, bicep curls, and shoulder raises.

My workouts have improved drastically and I have continued to improve my physique. I have realized that nutrition is one of the most important factors to increase muscle mass and for total health. I have tried many diets, including going Plant-Based diet from 2017-2022. On a Plant-Based diet I was able to go from 165Ib, to a lean 170Ib(see below)

I know eat an omnivorous diet which includes mostly whole foods, organic produce, and plenty of fruits. I reincorporated fish, eggs, chicken, and red meat back into my diet. I do not eat pork, and limit dairy depending on source.

Nutrition Advising

Regardless of dietary choices, my goal is to educate all of my clients in nutrition so they can improve their health and achieve their fitness goals.

Michael Cockrum was my trainer in San Francisco before I moved to LA. We worked together for several years. For context, I’m a 55 year old male with back problems. I’ve worked with trainers in NY, DC, SF and LA and Michael was the best.

He was one of the only trainers that I worked with that actually listened to me and developed a plan for my needs. He always gave me his full attention during our sessions and constantly checked with me to make sure that I was doing ok. He pushed me when I needed to be pushed but also knew when to give me a break. He made sure that I worked my entire body and not just the parts that I enjoyed working.

He would talk to me about my diet and my posture. I can’t forget about the stretching! He always forced me to stretch at the beginning and end of our sessions. He encouraged me to stretch at home. As I sit and write this, I realize that Michael really was the best trainer that I’ve worked with. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Michael has been my personal trainer for the past five years and I can’t recommend him enough. I appreciate his holistic approach which always challenges me while focusing on precise form and balanced nutrition. He made me realize why I wasn’t really seeing the results I wanted prior to training with him. He has since helped me gain significant strength and establish a healthy routine that keeps me motivated,  energized and confident about my workouts.

I have been training with Michael for many years now. Michael, not only shows me how to work out properly, but also emphasizes and educates me on how important diet is, also, to your health goals. After all, you are what you eat. Michael knows about nutrition and helps me figure out what's right for me and my situation, and what I am trying to achieve.

I put on some healthy pounds (that's what I wanted) since the beginning of my journey with him. And was able to maintain my weight and body composition that I wanted.  My journey to good health still hasn't ended and still has a long way to go.  But I'm very proud of myself and the work Michael and I have put in so far. Working out with a good friend makes a workout easy and fun.  And I couldn't be happier to continue this journey with him.
